4 Tips to Help You Manage Construction Site Health and Safety
Whatever sector you work in, health and safety is a big part of running your business. But for the second year in a row, the construction sector has had more fatalities than any other industry. So, it’s vital that you do all you can to manage your construction site health and safety. The law says that all businesses have a responsibility to manage risk and hazards, and train their workers to follow regulations. So, read our 4 tips to make sure you’re complying with the law. 1. Keep your site tidy and clean It’s a fairly obvious one, but you should ensure you keep your site tidy, clean and organised to lower risk. Create a clear distinction between site space, working space and transport space. You can do this by:- Making sure that unused materials and tools are stored in designated areas when not being used
- Fencing off site boundaries
- Ensuring that the site can only be accessed by authorised and trained staff
- Making sure that all staff are aware of site rules
- Identify risks and plan precautions to ensure that you reduce risk as much as possible
- Use appropriate equipment to reduce falling risk (e.g. harnesses, scaffolding)
- Ensure the weather conditions are suitable for working at height
- Make sure you’ve got the right tools for the task
- Wear appropriate workwear
- Ensure all machinery is in good condition
